How to build and price without getting lost
The build tools are fun, and they can also quietly change your build when you add one option. Six habits keep it simple.
1. Pick the trim first
The trim sets the engine, axles and most of the price. For sand, start with the off-road trims: Wrangler Willys or Rubicon, Gladiator Mojave or Rubicon, Bronco Badlands, Ram 2500 Warlock, Silverado Custom Trail Boss, F-250 Tremor.
2. Packages before single options
Packages bundle options, and many single options are only sold inside one. Choose the packages you want, then add what is left.
3. Read every pop-up
When the tool says an item requires or replaces another, read it before you accept. That is where builds change without anyone noticing.
4. Check the color at the end
Some colors and wheels are not offered with every package. Look again once the packages are set.
5. Know what the total includes
The running total is the sticker price, usually with the destination charge. It leaves out dealer fees, tax and tags; your certificate shows all of those.
6. Save the summary
On the summary page, use the site’s save, share or print option, or take screenshots. Paste the link or attach the file below.
Ask the owners
Where owners compare builds
The owner forums are the best place to see real builds, ask what an option is worth on the sand, and follow factory-order timing. Search the forum for your trim and the package you are weighing.
