Half ton · Ram 1500, F-150, Silverado 1500
The everyday truck
Lighter, with a softer ride when the bed is empty, easier to park, and easier on gas. A half ton is plenty of truck for most families, most boats and the beach.
Compare · Half ton vs. three-quarter ton
Ram sells a Warlock and a Rebel in both sizes. Ford sells a Tremor in both. The badge matches, but the truck underneath doesn’t. Here is what changes when you step up from a half ton to a three-quarter ton, and what the step up really costs.

The short answer
Half ton · Ram 1500, F-150, Silverado 1500
Lighter, with a softer ride when the bed is empty, easier to park, and easier on gas. A half ton is plenty of truck for most families, most boats and the beach.
Three-quarter ton · Ram 2500, F-250, Silverado 2500HD
A stronger frame, axles and springs built to tow and haul far more. The trade-off is a firmer ride with an empty bed and more weight: a Ram 2500 Warlock is around 1,500 pounds heavier than a Ram 1500 Warlock.
On the sand
Air down to 18–20 psi in either one. The half ton carries less weight through soft sand, and the three-quarter ton brings a bigger engine to push through it. The way each one feels on the beach is the part no spec sheet tells you.

Which one fits you
Pick the 1500 if
The truck is your daily driver, what you tow is within a half ton’s limits, and a softer ride matters more than capacity.
Pick the 2500 if
You tow a big camper or trailer, carry heavy loads, want the bench on a Rebel or Tremor, or simply want the heavy-duty truck and don’t mind a firmer ride.
Drive both
Half a day on the Carova beach and on North Carolina Highway 12, the two-lane road up the Outer Banks, settles the ride question. Our lineup has both sizes: the Silverado 1500 Custom Trail Boss, the Ram 2500 Warlock and the F-250 XLT with Tremor. Need six seats? See trucks with bench seats.
