OFFROAD.GUIDEBuilt your way. No haggling.

How it works · Step by step

Twelve steps, from your first build to your own driveway.

Here is everything, in order: what you do, what we do, and where to go next. Take the time. Drive it on the beach, then drive another. You’ve done your homework, so you’ve earned the best price possible, with no haggling and no salesperson.

Before your day

Build it, book it, get ready.

  1. Step 1

    Build yours online

Start on the maker’s own build-and-price site; the links are below. Pick the trim first, then the packages, then the color. It’s the fun part, so take your time. When you’re done, copy your build’s link (see below). No sign-in needed, and you don’t need to click "Get a quote". Still comparing two? Build both.

  2. Step 2

    Send us your build

Optional, but it helps. Paste your build link into Send your build so we have it in hand before your day on the beach. Not sure yet? Skip this step. The beach will help you decide.

  3. Step 3

    Request your date

Pick a date on the main page. It takes about five minutes. We email you to confirm, with the booking link for your $325 and the online license and insurance check. Nothing is charged until your date is confirmed.

  4. Step 4

    Get ready

Every driver is 25 or older, licensed and carries full-coverage insurance. Bring the person who’ll ride with you, and car seats for little ones. Financing? A pre-approval from your own bank or credit union gives you a number to compare. Trading one in? Have the year, mileage and VIN handy.

Your day

Five and a half hours, nothing rushed.

  1. Step 5

    Keys at the hotel

Meet us at the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk for a short walk-around. Then the keys are yours for five and a half hours. Nobody rides along.

  2. Step 6

    Highway 12, then the sand

About 45 minutes each way on North Carolina Highway 12, the two-lane road up the Outer Banks, and about three hours on the Carova 4x4 beach. We show you how to air down to 18–20 psi before you hit the sand. Recovery gear is on board, and we’re a phone call away the whole time.

  3. Step 7

    Drive another, if you want

Not the one? That’s what the day is for. Book a second vehicle and a second driver, and swap at the Virginia line so you each drive both. $325 a vehicle.

After the beach

One upfront best price, then your build.

  1. Step 8

    Your price, in writing

Our dealer for that brand emails you a numbered certificate with your No-Haggle Price: one upfront best price for your build, every line itemized out the door. No haggling, no salesperson.

  2. Step 9

    Take your time

Talk it over at home. Compare all you like. There’s no clock and nobody calling to push you. When you’re ready, say yes.

  3. Step 10

    Order it exactly your way

Call the one contact named on your certificate. That person places your factory order at the No-Haggle Price: your trim, your packages, your color. Don’t settle.

  4. Step 11

    Follow your build

Ordered, scheduled, built, shipped, on the truck. Each time the status changes, you hear from us the same day, in plain words.

  5. Step 12

    Delivery, and your trade

A dealer near your home hands you the keys and picks up your trade. Within the ordering store’s own delivery area, you can take delivery here instead and give your new 4x4 its first drive on the sand.

Before you build

Pick the trim first; it decides what else is available. Packages come before single options. Read every pop-up, because one choice can add or remove another. Check the color last. More tips for the build tools.

Keep your build

Ford: on the Summary page, tap Share, then Copy Link. Chevrolet: on the Summary page, tap Share for a build link and a six-character Build Code. Jeep and Ram: on the Summary page, copy the web address from your browser; it holds your whole build. Paste the link into Send your build. You don’t need an account, and nothing goes to a dealer until you ask for it.

Questions

Straight answers

How long does the whole thing take?

The beach day is five and a half hours. Building online takes an evening or two, and the factory order takes as long as the factory takes. We tell you every time the status changes.

Do I have to buy after my day on the beach?

No. You paid $325 for the experience. If none of them is right, no hard feelings.

Do I need to build online before I come?

No, but it helps. A saved build means you know which trim and packages you want to feel on the sand. You can also finish your build after the drive.

What does the $325 cover?

Five and a half hours in the off-road version of the vehicle you choose, beach permit included, with recovery gear on board.

Who places the factory order?

The one contact named on your certificate, at our dealer for that brand, at the No-Haggle Price for your build.

What happens to my trade?

The dealer that delivers your new vehicle picks up your trade.
